Flying eagle hairslide – a detailed pewter eagle hairslide with a rhodium-plated stainless steel sprung clasp.
The clip on the back grips the hair tightly to prevent the hairslide from slipping out.
During the Vendel/Merovingian and Viking Periods, on decorated helmets and picture stones in particular, the eagle was associated with fighting, war and death, as in Old Norse skaldic poetry.
