NB: These are for New Zealand Academy Highland dancing. They are not worn for the Highland S.O.B style danced in the rest of the world. They are not for Irish dancing.
These jig shoes have been designed by two Highland Dance teachers; Jacqui Seque and Vincent Laine** who wanted to go back to the original characteristics and materials of a jig shoe.
Thus the jig shoes Ceòl nam Brògan have :
-
a closed brogue profile with an upper foot strap, and back lateral eyelets for the laces.
-
full leather and entirely doubled design for longevity
-
one piece of wood low heels made in non splittable wood
-
a triple hard leather toe soling complete with a 2mm pad of bullock greenhide.
-
a flexible sole allowing highest elevation
-
toe and heel iron plates
-
a full memory foam sole that will ensure comfort and security of the feet while not impairing control and feeling.
** I am personally indebted to Vince for assisting in bringing these shoes to market in New Zealand. Not only did he co-design these shoes, he has also been instrumental in finding a manufacturer in France to make these to specific Academy requirements, sourcing greenhide, making sure the heels are one piece of wood and many other tweaks to the original design. He has also been the go between between McPhee's and Magic Feet in France making sure the shoes were the sizing we needed and also helping with sorting out orders and dispatch (chief translator). Without Vince these shoes would not have happened.
Vince has also written an information sheet and filmed a video on how to Look After your Jig Shoes. See HERE for this information.
Here is a schedule of comparisons of different shoe measurements around the world.
Please note that while we are more than happy to exchange shoes for another size or brand we do not offer refunds. We have had to implement this policy as a result of people buying shoes with no intention of keeping them.
