Casual Kilt -  McPhee’s introduces the casual kilt, popular in Scotland for some time as an alternative to the traditional kilt. It uses less tartan (generally about half the tartan as a traditional 8yd kilt) and can be worn during the day for casual use.

The casual kilt uses 5 yds of woollen tartan and can be made in either the 11oz or 13oz weight. The specification is 3 buckles and straps (1¼"), belt loops, single fringe, two inch rise, colour matched lining. Our casual kilts are imported from Lochcarron Tartan Mill in Scotland.

Process

Choose your tartan. Ask family members which tartan you might wear, ask if any other members of the family had kilts and which tartan they wore.

We generally suggest you start looking at the Mediumweight Tartans first.  There are 221 tartans available.  There are over 500 tartans available in the Lightweight. Contact us to discuss the difference.

Take measurements. Have a look at the kilt measuring form and if you have any queries either phone us so we can talk you through the process or email us and we will phone you back. It is vital that this step is done correctly. Please see the image provided with measurement indicators:

Waist Measurement (1)- this is around the waist, at the navel and is a snug measurement.

Seat Measurement (2) - this is a loose measurement around the widest part of the bottom. Ensure you have nothing in your pockets.

Length measurement (3)  - this needs to be completed by another person. If you try and do this yourself you will lean over and not get a correct measurement. Measure from navel to the floor when kneeling. Kneel up straight and do not lean forward. This is the finished length.

Your Height (enables the kilt maker to visualise the finished kilt).

Please take care when you take these measurements. The kilt will be made to the measurements you supply. Any subsequent adjustment required will be at the client's cost.

Casual kilts generally take about 10-12 weeks from receipt of order.
